Discover Your Purpose
Every young person has unique talents waiting to be uncovered. With Encourage Education's mentoring service, I help adolescents and young adults look past their perceived weaknesses and focus on what makes them extraordinary. The transition from middle school to early adulthood is full of challenges, but parents and youth do not have to navigate it alone.
My Approach
I was once an undiagnosed neurodivergent middle schooler. At age 12, I was attending Junior High School in a small town. The school pulled in all the 7th- and 8th-graders from several surrounding towns, which meant there was a sea of strangers from vastly different backgrounds. It seemed that most of the teachers were older and had given up trying. I was miserable academically and socially.
Everything changed when I went to a progressive school in 8th grade. Finally, I was seen as an individual, and my strengths and contributions mattered! My self-esteem began to rise slowly, and by the time I was 16, I was accepted into the college I wanted and graduated early, just before my 17th birthday.
When I work with students, I shift the focus from "what's wrong" to "what's strong." My personalized mentoring sessions help youth ages 12 to 22 identify their natural talents, build lasting self-confidence, and align their passions with their future goals.
